Exhausting Depressing and Stressful Avenue (EDSA)

Five days a week, I have to endure painful travels from our house to the office and vice-versa. You may ask why a simple travel would leave one to be in so much pain. Well maybe, you haven’t tried the highways of EDSA.

EDSA has been the battleground for us commuters for God-knows how long now. There is a struggle between drivers of vehicles for the quest to edge upon another to ensure that he will get to their destination ahead of another vehicle. These struggles are evident by the continuous honks of car horns as well as unspoken exchanges between drivers by means of sharp glances and gestures. Even passengers are sometimes involved in these exchanges in defense of their drivers even though they do not have any affiliation or whatsoever with them, but with one goal and that is to get to their destination quicker.

You can say that it is just normal to experience congestion during peak hours, but have you seen EDSA at 6:30 in the morning? The vehicles are lined up and one might think that the highway became a very long parking lot for them. You might assume that there’s an accident or vehicular malfunction somewhere ahead, but surprisingly, there’s none. It’s just plain volume of vehicles using the highway. There is no exact time as to when EDSA will be green and go, one just have to depend on his/her luck to brave the highways.

Well one thing for sure, EDSA and other major thoroughfares here in Metro Manila will be traffic free………. during Pacquiao’s fights!
