Tips: Undo “Send” in Gmail

Do you have an experience wherein after composing a letter in Gmail, you impulsively clicked the sent button but shouldn’t be sent yet? Good news, it means no worries because with new Gmail features, you can undo a sent email.

I am a 100% Gmail user and I believe this is one of the most commonly used free online email in the planet today although on the other article said, Hotmail is still quite bigger. The feature is hidden from most users who don’t know where to look. Be aware that the feature is part of Gmail Labs, though. That means it’s still in testing and it might not always work as intended.

Basically what Gmail does is just delay the sending time of your email by setting the delay time to 10 secs, 20 secs, 30 secs. I think this feature is very useful specially for me who usually having second thoughts of sending email.

WordPress Installation

WordPress as a blog publishing system (which millions of blogger usually use) is famous for its ease of use and flexibility. Among all the features of the wordpress system, it’s easy and simple installation can be considered as one of its most important virtues. If you are a newbie and are looking to install the wordpress system for the first time, the basic steps are listed below.

In order to install the wordpress system, you first need to know a few things before you can actually begin with installation:

For a proper installation, you need to have file uplading access (FTP) to your website’s folders on the server.
You have to be able to access your web server either through shell or through FTP. You normally get FTP access when you apply for online hosting.
You will need FTP software installed on the computer from which you intend to upload files to the server. Sometimes the hosting will have a web based file uploading system, in which case you can use that instead of FTP.

After you have sorted out the above mentioned points, you then need to do the following:

Ensure that your web hosting meets the minimum requirements needed to run the wordpress system. The server has to support PHP and MySQL. You need the ability to create a new MySQL database. Usually that can be done through your hosting’s online administrator interface (if your webhost company has it, log in and search around for a way to add a mysql database. Otherwise contact your hosting support and ask them to add a mysql database for your wordpress blog – remember the name of the database, you will need it later when configuring the blog)

Step by Step Instructions for WordPress Installation:

Download the latest version of wordpress and save it on your computer’s hard drive.
Simply unzip or extract the downloaded wordpress package on your harddisk.
Create a MySQL database for the wordpress on your web server.
Once you have created the database, have a look at the unzipped wordpress files. Rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php.
Now that the file has been renamed, you should open the wp-config.php file in the text editor and then fill the required details of the database. (Right click on the file and select “Open With” in the popup windows menu. Then select to open the file with Notepad or Wordpad).
Now, store these wordpress files in the desired or decided location of the web server (usually the main folder of your website). If you wish to put the wordpress into the root of your domain i.e. (www.yourdomain.com) then you need to upload all the unzipped wordpress files directly to your server’s root folder (do not put the files into a “wordpress” sub-folder on the server, but rather directly into the root). Else, if you wish the wordpress system to be installed in the subdirectory of your selected website (http://abc.com/blog/) then, just create a folder with your desired name and upload the wordpress files into it.
Now, open a web browser and go to your blog’s www address. There will be an installation script waiting for you. It will guide you through the rest of the process.

If you have installed the system in the root directory, then the blog should be located on www.yoursite.com, else if you have installed it in a sub-folder, then it should be located in www.yoursite.com/subfolder/

After you have configured everything to meet your requirements, it’s time to download a good wordpress template. Unzip it, and upload all the files (and folders) from the zip file into your blog’s /wp-content/themes/ folder. Each theme should be placed in a sub-folder by itself. So the directlry structure would be /wp-content/themes/themename/(files are here).

That’s It, your wordpress blog is installed, configured and looking great.

If you are into blogging or already have a blog of your own, chances are maybe you’re using a WordPress as your content management system. If not, ou should be. Because there are many reasons why WordPress is the most popular platform in the web today when it comes to blogging.

When it comes to internet marketing and search engine rankings, WordPress is the most search engine frienldy blogging platform. In fact, it is also user-friendly when it comes to installation and configuration the way you want it to be. Another great thing about WordPress platform is it has a lot of plugins you can use and download for free that you can add to your blog to function more the way you wanted it to be.

WordPress 3.0 has just arrived on the scene — the thirteenth major release of the popular blogging software. It’s the result of six months of work from a total of 218 different contributors. You can download it now or upgrade from within your WordPress dashboard.

What’s new in 3.0? One of the best ways to find out is to try out the new Twenty Ten theme, which shows off many of the release’s (which is also called “Thelonius”) major new features, including custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus, post types and taxonomies.

Thelonius also features a lighter interface, more contextual help options, a boatload of bug fixes, bulk updates and much more. Interestingly, the staff of WordPress/Automattic won’t immediately rush off to start work on WordPress 3.1. Founder Matt Mullenweg said his team will be taking some time to focus on things other than the core product.

Why do I see single or double underlined links?

These links are part of a pay per click advertising program called Infolinks.

Infolinks uses the In Text method of advertising: they take my text and create links within it. If you hover your mouse over these double underline links, you will see a small dialog box containing advertisement related to the text marked. You can choose to either move the mouse away and go on with your browsing, or to press on the box and go to the ad which is relevant to our text.

Bicycle-powered charger launches by Nokia

HELSINKI (AFP) – – The world’s top mobile phone maker Nokia on Thursday released details of four new cheap phone models and a battery charger powered by the energy generated from riding a bicycle.

The charger, which can be fitted into any Nokia phone with a 2 mm charger jack, uses a dynamo to generate electricity from the movement of the wheels, Nokia said in a statement.

“Bicycles are the most widespread means of transport in many markets around the world, so this is just one more benefit to be gained from an activity people are already doing,” Alex Lambeek, Vice President at Nokia, said in the statement.

The price of the charger kit, which also includes a holder for securing the phone to the bicycle, will vary according to market, but in countries like Kenya, where the product was introduced on Thursday, it would be around 15 euros (18.43 dollars), a Nokia spokesman told AFP.

To begin charging, a cyclist needs to travel around six kilometres per hour (four miles per hour), and while charging times will vary depending on battery model, a 10 minute journey at 10 kmh produces around 28 minutes of talk time or 37 hours of standby time, the spokesman said. The faster you ride, the more battery life you generate.

The charger is set to become available through selected retailers and the company’s online store before year-end, Nokia said.

The four new phones it also introduced in Kenya on Thursday target developing markets, a key growth area for the Finnish company, and also contain features designed for the needs of people in countries where access to electricity is limited, such as a six-week battery standby time.

Shipments of the phone models, priced at 30-45 euros, will begin by September.

Facebook-Threat detected on videos

Last night, there’s nothing wrong with my Facebook videos until suddenly this morning when I try to view the videos I am trying to upload last night I cannot view it anymore, even the old ones. And my AVG anti-virus is detecting a threat and it seems that I am not the only experiencing it inside FB. I clicked on the play icon, the little play window enlarged as if it was about to play but then AVG popped up saying Threat Detected! Threat Name: Trojan Horse Exploit_c.FWR was located in the file.

It seems that only AVG Anti-virus is the only one who can detect or affected. Below is a temporary fix for us to enjoy and watch our FB videos. It worked fine and nothing crazy has happened to my computer. Now its just a matter for AVG to come up with a fix…

Temporary Fix:

In AVG click – Tools / Advanced Settings / Online Shield / Web Protection
Below where it says: Exclude Host/IP/Domain

Click Apply, enjoy your videos……..

This is a temporary work around for the issue….
