Speed boost and big price cut for Apple’s new iPhone

(06-09) 12:47 PDT SAN FRANCISCO — Apple Inc. cut the price of its best-selling iPhone in half Monday - to $199 - making the all-in-one smart phone, media player and Internet device more accessible than before.

Apple also said it had increased the speed for the iPhone so that it runs on the latest 3G technology, shortening the time it takes to download a Web page and access the Internet. And for the first time, it will also incorporate GPS technology so that users can track where they are as they’re traveling. (more…)

Nokia launches TV-enabled 16GB N96

After leaked pics and spec have done the rounds on the Internet of late, Nokia has finally unveiled the Nokia N96, that, as with the N95, they insist on calling a “multimedia computer” rather than a phone.

The USP for the N96, aside from its general multi-tasking capabilities, is that it is “truly optimised for video and TV”.

With a 2.8-inch screen, 16GB of internal memory and support for video in a wide range of formats, the dual-sliding N96 will offer a DVB-H TV tuner for live TV broadcasting in select markets. (more…)

20% of iPhones Unlocked

20% of iPhones in France unlocked

iPhones were launched in France on 29 November

Mobile phone company Orange has said 20% of customers who have bought iPhones from it in France have opted for unlocked ones.

Orange sold the popular Apple product for 399 euros (£288) with a two-year contract, or 749 euros without one.

Elsewhere, mobile companies only sell iPhones to customers who take out network contracts with them.

Orange sold 30,000 iPhones in the first five days, 20% of which were unlocked so they could be used on any network.

Orange says that 48% of people buying the phones were new customers for the network. (more…)

Contact or Call Center: What’s in a name?

Traditionally,  contact centers have been called call centers. The newer name-contact center-reflects the fact that more than just phone calls are being handle. Many call centers have evolved over the years to do much more that just answer phones.

Bottom line, it’s up to the customer to decide how they want to communicate with your company, and it’s up to your company to respond appropriately through it’s contact center. (more…)
