Hachiko: A dog’s Tale

August 6th, 2010 jimer No comments

Come on, Hachiko. Let’s go, ” Eisaburo Ueno said as he walked out the door. The White Akita dog was already waiting for him, wagging it’s tail and ready to go. Every morning they walked together to the Shibuya station, where Mr. Ueno got on the train. in the evenings, when he returned from work, Hachiko was at the station waiting for him, and together they walked home.

Mr. Ueno was a professor at Tokyo University, and he took the train to and from work. For years Hachiko accompanied his owner to the station in the mornings. And in the evenings, when Mr. Ueno stepped off the train, Hachika already there sat waiting.

But one day in 1925 something terrible happened. The day started out as usual, with Hachiko accompanying Mr. Ueno to the railroad station, but while at work the professor had a sudden heart attack and died. That evening the train rumbled into the Shibuya railroad station, where Hachiko sat as usual. He eagerly looked around, but his owner wasn’t there. The dog whimpered and trudged home alone.

Hachiko faithfully returns to the same spot at the station the very next day, and every day for the next nine years to wait for his beloved master. During his daily visits, Hachiko touches the lives of many who work near and commute through the town square. He teaches the local people love, compassion and above all unyielding loyalty.

For the next 9 years Hachiko faithfully met the evening trains until he died at the Shibuya station. His faithfullness and devotion didn’t go unnoticed, and today, a bronze statue of Hachiko sits in his waiting spot outside the Shibuya station in Japan as a permanent reminder of his love and devotion.

Hachiko was loyal to his owner. If only we could be that faithful to our God–our Creator, our Savior, and our Friend. Maybe you have relatives who don’t believe in God and who try to get you to do things shouldn’t. Perhaps other kids tease you when you pray in public. Or could you get so busy that it’s hard to find time to read your Bible and pray regularly? Whatever the circumstance, whether it seems big or small, “remain faithful to Jesus.” Rev: 14: 12 – “This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus.”

The Movie

Portrayed by Richard Gere as the owner in the movie Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009) – An American adaptation of a Japanese tale about a loyal dog named Hachiko.

This very special friend would accompany his master to the train station every day and return each afternoon to greet him after work.

Scientists Discover How to Make Robots Bounce on Water

A tiny water walking machine

The way water striders walk on water was discovered years ago. The insect uses its long legs to help evenly distribute its tiny body weight. The weight is distributed over a large area so that the fragile skin formed by surface tension supports the bug on the water. However, the ability of water striders to jump onto water without sinking has baffled scientists, until now.

A team of researchers at Seoul National University, led by Ho-Young Kim and Duck-Gyu Lee, has finally answered that question. By using a highly water-repellent sphere, which mimicked the actions of the water strider’s highly water-repellent legs, they were able to determine a small range of speeds at which the sphere or insect could hit the water and not sink. Do you think “Two Heads” are betten than one?

November 28th, 2007 jimer No comments

“Two heads are better than one” as what everybody says when it comes to problem solving, debates, discussions, joining a quiz contests, etc. because both can share knowlege in a situation like this. But do you believe that there is in real life “two heads” living in this world? At first, i don’t believe that it’s possible as I can only see it on television or in movies.

Yes they are born connected in one body, but they have separate internal organs like heart that beat as one? And speaking of hearts, do they feel the same towards their lovers? Unfortunately some are born “two-heads” but has single internal organs that will support them or abnormal complications which results to loss or death.

Well, i haven’t met personally this type of creature whether it be human or animals. Maybe if given a chance, i will add their answers into this blog later. For the mean time, view some of the “two head” living creatures that are living and exist in this world.

Mama “Chi”

November 21st, 2007 jimer No comments

Last December 8 our rabbit, gave birth to 7 babies. Actually this is her 2nd kindling, her first one came last November 8, but sad to say, all 7 died before they even opened their eyes.

1st Time Mommy

All of us were not prepared for the additional members of our household. We didn’t even know that she’s preggy! We thought that she’s just fat because of too much eating. Then on November 8, around , neighboring children outside the gate were shouting “Baby rabbits!” My mother-in-law was at the house that time and she was curious why the children were shouting. When she came out and saw the cage, she saw tiny babies already on the ground amidst the feces. She immediately sought help from a neighbor who helped her get the babies and placed them on a box temporarily. She gave birth while inside the cage with the daddy “chi”. My sister-in-law text-ed me about it and as soon as I read the message, I felt all blood rushed to my head because I can’t believe it! 7 babies! How should they be raised?! So in a short span of time, I researched thru internet on how to take care of baby rabbits. But still we’re all in the dark on how to handle the situation. When Jimer and I came home, we found the rabbits in the box, 4 black and 3 pinkish in color. We were told the babies has not been fed by the mommy since birth, and maybe they are all hungry…etc. So we put the mommy in the other bigger cage then made a cardboard box nest with cloth diapers for the babies and put them all there. We were worried because the mommy just stomps on the babies, never minding if the baby cries. I just turned deaf with their cries and convinced myself that in their natural habitat, this will still be the situation. Read more…

Are asteroids a threat to Earth?

Why did Pluto get demoted?

Word came down in stages this summer. First, the rumor that our long-exclusive planetary club was ready to expand—not only renewing Pluto’s status, but adding three new members in the bargain. The world’s astronomers seemed to be sending a message of inclusion: There’s always room for one more.

Scratch that, they told us two weeks later. Never mind Charon and Ceres and Eris. And while you’re at it, forget Pluto too. Our solar system, from henceforth, would include only eight full-fledged planets, not the nine we had all memorized in elementary school.

What happened? Why the dramatic reversal? Why did poor Pluto have to get the ax? Last month, as part of the 2006 Friedman Lecture Series in Astronomy, a panel of Penn State experts convened to take up these questions.

Truth is, said Darren Williams, associate professor of astronomy and astrophysics at Penn State Erie, Pluto was always a Read more…

Memory Chips inside your Brain?

June 11th, 2007 jimer No comments

Researchers at Tel Aviv University in Israel have demonstrated that neurons cultured outside the brain can be imprinted with multiple rudimentary memories that persist for days without interfering with or wiping out others.”The main achievement was the fact that we used the inhibition of the inhibitory neurons” to stimulate the memory patterns, says physicist Eshel Ben-Jacob, senior author of a paper on the findings published in the May issue of Physical Review E. “We probably made [the cell culture] trigger the collective mode of activity that … [is] … possible.” Read more…
