Only Heaven Knows

heaven knows

While browsing through my old, old collection of Mp3s, I found this really nice song that I wanted to share with y’all. It’s a song that always reminds me of my past and a song that belongs to present. During the late 90s, I, or should I say, we, used to download songs from the Napster, KaZaa, and even in the IRC! and now Limewire and Torrent. But that’s the thing of the past. Nowadays we don’t download songs anymore, we blog. Read more…

Firefox 3.0 Beta 4 Launched

March 11th, 2008 jimer No comments

Mozilla has today announced the availability of Firefox 3.0 Beta 4.
This latest Beta includes more than 900 enhancements from the previous beta, and Mozilla says many of these were based on community feedback.

Amongst the improvements are a revised download manager; a full zoom facility; and integration with Vista.
Also – Mozilla has made the browser more Mac-friendly so that the new Firefox theme makes toolbars, icons, and other user interface elements look like a native OS X application.

Firefox also uses OS X widgets and spell-checker in web forms and supports Growl for notifications of completed downloads and available updates. And integration with Linux has also been included.

Mozilla adds that the performance of the browser has been improved so that, compared to Firefox 2, web applications like Google Mail and Zoho Office will run twice as fast in Firefox 3 Beta 4.

Log in now to take part in the Beta test.

Are gadgets driving couples apart?

March 7th, 2008 jimer No comments

According to a new survey, Brits are choosing their gadgets over their loved ones.

As part of The Great British Bedtime survey, conducted online by tickbox.net, 1408 people were asked about their sleeping habits between 27 February and 3 March 2008.

The survey, run by The Sleep Council, found that our obsession with gadgets such as BlackBerrys, mobile phones, games consoles and laptops, is forcing millions of couples to regularly sleep apart.

It revealed that 40% of people go to bed at a different time to their partner because they are still playing with their toys and 8 out of 10 have admitted to using computers or other gadgets at bedtime.

Some 22% now rely on their Blackberrys and mobile phones for their alarm call, 43% watch television in bed and 26% make phone calls or send/receive texts messages.

Indeed – it has almost become the norm with many sending and receiving emails and checking social networking sites, such as Facebook, in bed before snuggling down.

According to the Sleep Council, our bedrooms have become “communications hubs” instead of a place for sleep.

“Busy night-time routines are driving couples’ bedtimes and even their bedrooms apart”, said Jessica Alexander of The Sleep Council.

And this obsession with keeping on top of things – either answering emails or checking our Facebook profile pages – means that we Brits are going to bed later and later.

According to the survey, 40% of the respondants were in bed between 10pm and 11pm on a workday, while only one in eight hit the sack by about 9pm.

And, unsurprisingly, we’re all tired as a result.

Of the respondants aged between 25- and 3- year- old, 56% described themselves as usually very tired or shattered when they go to bed.

Of course the 3 hours and 16 pints in the pub after work has nothing to do with this.

Tip to get back Page Rank

March 6th, 2008 jimer No comments

BerryBlitz asked how to get back his PR2 (his blog now has PR0). Apparently, he is one of the millions affected by the PR sweep as punishment by Google on paid links.

Well, here’s a tip for those who were affected by PR drop:
I was Stumbling a while ago when I found this timely and interesting post from Yaro Starak of Entrepreneurs Journey, one of the successful netrepreneurs and probloggers, on how he has managed to get his page rank back to 6. When the big sweep happened, his blog went down to 3 from his original PR6.

Good for him he has now managed to get back his page rank. He added no follow to all paid links in his blog, then submitted a review request with Google at their Webmaster Tools then patiently waited for Google to give him his original PR. According to him, “Google simply doesn’t tell you whether you have successfully adhered to their requests or you still need to do more to have the penalty removed.”

I was also affected by this PR drop so I might also need to do some cleaning up. Right now, I am making every effort to get my PR back to 4:
1. I removed my LinkWorth Linkads script.
2. I removed my TLA plugin.
3. I am posting more regularly to get more traffic and subscribers.
4. I am exchanging links with relevant blogs.
5. I will also be putting nofollow in all the paid links in this blog. I was a member of BlogToProfit previously but fortunately I backed out because I couldn’t keep up with the deadlines.
